“Ranchi Ka Gayle” Emerges from the Land of Dhoni Robin Minz: A Unique Individual

It’s simple to play cricket in India, but it’s difficult to become a professional. It’s a difficult road, and there is no assurance of success. But despite all the obstacles, Robin Minz has succeeded in being the first tribal cricket player selected for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Francis, his father, is certain that his son’s accomplishment should be recorded in history books since it not only demonstrates his brilliance but also breaks down boundaries and opens doors for other tribe players to pursue their goals.

Jharkhandi ex-armyman Francis Xavier Minz is proud of his 21-year-old son Robin, who has shown extraordinary skill and a love of the game from an early age. Robin has the ability to succeed in the cricket world, according to his trainers as well. Even though Robin has no prior experience playing cricket or any other sport, his father and instructors are committed to helping him realize his ambition of becoming a professional player.

When a number of players from all over the world went under the hammer on December 19, Robin was one unknown figure who shocked both the spectators and the Dubai auction arena with the amount of money he ended up earning and the bidding war he caused. The Chennai Super Kings were the first to exert pressure, and they effectively opposed the Mumbai Indians. Gujarat Titans entered the fray and bought their guy for INR 3.6 crore just as CSK seemed to have their man. As a result, Robin was chosen to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), making him the first tribal (Adivasi) player.

More than the cost, however, Robin’s parents are happy that their son has reached the pinnacle of cricket. Given the community he is a part of, they are anxious yet have put in the hard work to see their kid succeed.

Speaking exclusively to News18 CricketNext, Francis thinks his son’s accomplishments deserve at least a passing mention in history, should it ever be recorded.

“In my opinion, the greatest accomplishment is the chance he has been given. People continue to assert that without a source or other kind of support, nothing can happen. However, I’m satisfied with what my kid accomplished and the level of cricket he reached, Francis told CricketNext.

“It seems to me that Robin’s name would be on the first page of any history that is ever written. Itihas ke pannon par koi likhega to mujhe lagta hai iss [Robin] ka naam zaroor likehga, chaahe Jharkhand ho, ya fir pura desh, he said.

During the auction, Francis, his wife Elis, and their daughter Karishma were there at their home, excitedly awaiting the announcement of Robin’s name. The mother and sister continued their never-ending chat as the father prayed to God. As soon as Robin’s name appeared on the screen, everyone began to palpate.

We were so ecstatic that I sometimes had to urge Robin’s mother and sister to keep quiet. And when his name was spoken at last, everyone fell quiet,” Francis said.

For Robin to become the person he is today, the Minz family had to face many obstacles and trials. Furthermore, the family isn’t at all excited about the money now that he has secured a multi-million dollar IPL agreement.

“We’ve turned into crorepatis, despite what the media portrays, but that’s not the case. We must be forced to acknowledge that, “Oh yeah, we do have that much money.”

“Despite our fear, we took great care of our kid. We haven’t heard of or seen a young man from the tribal group participating in a major cricket match. We felt both optimism and worry in our hearts the whole time. Therefore, it has no bearing on us now that he has secured a multi-million dollar agreement, Francis said.

Ever since he was a little boy, Francis, a stern father, has allowed his son to play cricket since he knew how much Robin enjoyed the game.

“Jab Khada tabhi balla pakda tabhi hona seekha. (When he stood up, he clutched the bat). He was a cricket enthusiast.

“He has no idea what it even means to go about. Not even the market is his to win on his own. It’s not like the world we live in. However, even if it’s only a game, it may still be played. Francis said, “(He knows nothing but cricket).”

Robin is a gifted individual: Coaches

Tall and robust, Robin is a left-handed batsman and wicketkeeper. Three coaches oversee his training at Sonnet Cricket Club in Ranchi; two of them have extensive conversations about the young player from Shimal village in the Gumla area of Jharkhand with CricketNext.

When SP Gautam, a former Bihar Ranji player, met Robin in 2015–16, he was able to discern his cricket acumen. Furthermore, Gautam was more committed to encouraging the 21-year-old to use his natural strength and divine abilities in cricket.

“The tribal community’s members are built differently. Both their body and intellect are powerful. They come from such a disadvantaged background that, by the time they get to a certain stage, they have developed stronger minds. Thus, the coaches [wanted to] take advantage of it, Gautam said to CricketNext.

As a former wicketkeeper-batter, Gautam has assisted Robin in honing his craft behind the posts. One of his instructors, Asif Haque, who observes his hitting, gave Gautam credit for helping Robin develop into a better stumper.

“SP Gautam sir has been a great help to Robin. They talk about every little element of keeping wickets, including what a keeper should be fit for, how fit he should be, and what he may attempt. Robin has benefited more from Gautam Sir’s presence, Asif continued.

Man with few words, speaking via his bat

Speaking on Robin’s character, Asif said, “Hum aapse jitna baat kar rahe hain uska aadha bhi wo aapse nahi kar payega.” He prefers to be quiet. He wants his bat to do all the talking on the field, so his responses to queries are confined to yes or no.

He talks little and is quite silent. He responds, “My bat can do that on the field; why should I talk?” He prefers to be quiet, Gautam said.

People love to refer to Robin as “Jharkhand ka Gayle” since he is a left-hander who can strike six balls with devastating force in age-group cricket.

“Power is key in cricket, and Robin possesses plenty of it.” He stands out from the rest since he is a gifted player, Asif said.

a well-behaved pupil with a clean conscience

An excellent illustration of the perfect student is Robin. He always arrives to the ground early, whether it’s for a workout or a game. He won’t even attempt to play through the air if the coaches advise him to play defensive cricket.

He has a strong sense of discipline. He will arrive at 6:30 if the call is scheduled for 7 AM. In training or in competitions, he is always ahead of schedule, according to Gautam.

Regarding his character, Asif said that Robin has a strong link with each of his instructors and is incapable of lying or dumping someone.

“He honors his mentors.” He is a kid of integrity. He never provides an explanation for skipping training. Well, that’s not a scam at all. He won’t ever leave you or skip your workouts. He will just follow your strategy through to the conclusion of the session. Coach Asif added, “He listens to us intently and has complete faith in us.

“Being a two-way process, trust between a coach and his student is essential,” he said.

The Effect of Dhoni

What is, of course, the vibe of MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Ranchi? The renowned cricketer is revered by every City of State batter and wicketkeeper, and Robin’s tale is no exception.

Gautam, however, offered some counsel for the child: simply play with determination, and “Mahi Bhaiyya” would come to you.

“Mahi bhaiya khud aayenge tumse milne ke liye, tum pareshan mat ho.”

“Bigwigs keep an eye on talented players because they can sense their talent.” They converse with them and provide knowledge as well.

I advised him to continue grinding. Gautam said, “You will play with Mahi Bhaiya and you will surely meet him.
